Solution

Our Approach

Farsight Africa has extensive experience managing and conducting high level research and community engagement. Farsight Africa was well placed to carry out mapping in a wide range of regions; Jubaland (Kismayo), South West (Baidoa), Banadir (Mogadishu), Puntland (Garowe), Hirshabelle (Beledweyne), Galmudug (Dhuusamareeb), Somaliland. The project activities included:

  • Reviewing and analysing data from the AMIS system (aid management information system – Somalia: https://aims.mop.gov.so/) and the UNDP/UN WOMEN COVID-19 Gender Response Tracker data for Somalia (https://data.undp.org/explore-all-data/).
  • Mapping all interventions (UN agencies, international and local NGOs, private sector, academia, and Government).
  • Reviewing the Somalia Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SEIA) of COVID-19
  • Preparing a baseline study paper including methodology, analysis, and findings.
  • Drafting and finalizing a gender mapping study that categorized the interventions based on the topics and geographical areas and identified gaps/needs.

Results

The baseline mapping study carried out by Farsight Africa guided how to mainstream gender in UNDP Somalia’s programme to ensure the sustainability of its interventions, support equity growth and increase the impact of its programmes.
